A strange match day experience

Yesterday was going to be a good day. At 12 the F1 qualifying at Monza and then the pre match build up for the game. I was going for a 2-2 draw, if Gyan was fit, then would of been good to see him and new boy Bendtner teaming up.

Just as the qualifying had started, rumours started that Gyan had gone. He had been sent on loan to Dubai of all places. So absurd that it could not be true. Remember who we are and so the absurd was in fact true. I lost all interest in the F1, trying to find out what on earth was happening. As the realisation sunk in, he was gone, January 2011 all over again. Bent deserted us for money but at least stayed in the Premier League and tried to say he went to a 'bigger club', not true but could be argued. Gyan had no excuse, Dubai's league canot be compared to the PL, crowds of under 1,000. As we learnt later, the increase in wages from 40,000 to 200,000 might just of been the real reasons.

Gyan has gone, no point in crying about him, calling him names, forget him. Lets be honest if you were offered a pay increase of 150,000 per week, would you turn it down.

What we can't forget is why? What has led up to this and the management of the team. We must remember we were in this position at the end of the last transfer window. Is everything right in the magical world of SAFC? Where is Quinn's magic carpet? We have had our 3 top strikers leave in the last 3 windows. Not to bigger clubs but similar or much smaller clubs. All of them lost motivation in at least the last window of them playing for us. One reason seems to be Bruce's likeness for playing 1 up front. Often though this is due to us only having 1 striker. Should Bruce not of made plans to bring in a striker if he know that the current one is unhappy and wants to leave. Jones had his head turned by Liverpool's constant attention, Bent, maybe because he was not a constant for England & their manager whispering, a move would help. Gyan,  it seems after the Ghana v England, thought he was too good for us., bigger money elsewhere and whispers in his ears too.

Part of a managers job is man management. It seems as if he failed with Jones, Bent & Gyan. What about our other 1 season players like Canna. We seem to have a new team every season, is that stability? Other managers seem to be able to motivate unhappy players, why not Bruce?

The other thing a manager should do is to know how to organise his team. We have been needing a left back for seasons now. He sold Collins with no replacement, same as Bent & Gyan.  After so many chances of buying a LB still no sign. Last season Bruce said that Richardson should be playing for England in that position who believes that? Sessegnon is best played in the hole behind the striker, so where is he played, left wing. Why, we have not bought one & so someone has to play out of position. Where was Vaughan, was he not bought for his midfield goals. Why does Catts not last the whole game, even if he is not sent off?

We do have the makings of a good team with a few holes needing plugged. I don't think that Bruce has the tactical ability to do it. I don't think he knows what his best team is. He seems to have a scatter gun approach to buying & then wondering what he is going to do with them. Then next season he tries to sell most of them.

I don't believe that this time next year Bruce will be with us. Whether he will be with us next month is debatable. That will depend a lot on next week and also who is available to replace him. The best we can hope for this season is to equal our finish of 10th but I think that will be very hard to achieve.

This though seems to be the destiny of a Sunderland supporter. What should we do?

Simple. Those who can, go along next week and cheer on the lads, we can do nothing else. Me? I will be up here eagerly watching and hoping that we win 5-0.

Gyan has move on and so must we.

KEEP THE FAITH   &   FTM
