The Derby Game that is not a Derby

FA Cup weekend. It may not mean much to the likes of the Manchester teams but a day out at Wembley would be a day to remember for most of our lives. A day at Wembley is a dream for most fans, even the so called big 4. The fans may not turn out in numbers to the early rounds, can't understand why not but come the big day they will all be shouting for a ticket.

It is nice to see Martin taking it seriously, I can see why. Before he came the team lacked confidence and what better way of getting it back than to win and keep on winning. Winning becomes a good habit, why put that in jeopardy by putting out a weakened team? Martin wants the fans onside and what better way than a good cup run.

Last week was another good win but at a cost. The eye injury that Bendtner suffered will keep him out for weeks and the game changed when he left the pitch. We started to lose things in midfield, we were pushed back more on the defensive. It is odd how our only striker, when he goes off is missed in midfield. He holds the ball up well allowing the rest of the midfield to move up, maybe that is one reason why now the midfield is scoring goals. Before he went off Sess score what seemed would be one of our best goals of the season, helped again my that lad McClean. I think it is unfair to read too much into Wickham's performance which was not bad but he did not make the same impression he has done. First game back, can't expect too much. Swansea did have a lot of the possession but never seemed to be a threat, it did not help my heart rate though. Then Gardner came on and scored an even better goal than Sess's, if that was possible. Two nil, another win, we stay mid-table. Nice to hear Martin still saying we are not of danger, this is true. We start losing and the relegation zone is still close.

One result of Bendtner going off injured is that we may see something happening in the transfer market. It was looking likely that we would not being doing anything this month. Now that Bendtner is out for a few weeks the need for a striker is more urgent. It is good to see that when the need arises money can be found to buy. I think it will be a short term buy, so a striker coming to he end of their career.

Next the derby that I for one have never classed it as that. Middlesbrough may think of as a derby game but their's is with the likes of Darlington & Hartlepool, we have only one derby. Mind though because it is thought to be a derby game, means it is on TV. Shame it is ITV, their football production must be one of the worst on TV. Another game on TV on Tuesday night, I'm spoilt that week.

Saying it is not a derby game, one player will be up for it, Catts. I hope he is not too up for it as he has been a good boy of late and we don't want him returning to his bad old ways. I expect Wickham to start, he should be sharper after last week. I also think that Campbell will be on the bench. Listening to Martin's pre-match seems to suggest that Campbell is almost ready. I don't see any other change except maybe Gardner for Vaughan. This maybe to make him feel more part of the team, make him happier and maybe convince him stay, at least until the end of the season. Gardner not only has his wife wanting him to move but his brother is now saying he should move back.  The back 4 pick themselves until Colback is fit again and maybe after that too. Gordon may figure in it somewhere, he is not far from being first team fit. Three first team keepers is one too many and the odds are Gordon is the odd one out.

I can't see us losing this one, although it will not be easy. Middlesbrough do count it as a derby, plus they will be wanting to take a premiership team, prove that they can be prompted and be able to play with the big boys.
