Bye Bye Bruce, Hello Martin

I know I said that I would not be writing a blog this week but that is depression for you. One day something seems too much for you and another day you think you can.

The storm clouds are passing over SOL and a new era is about to being. Wish the same could be said for up here. Winds overnight of up to 70mph and 30-40 winds for the rest of the week with maybe snow. Bruce is gone but lets think kindly of him. He has stabilized us a premiership club, not the mid table team he has been saying we are but one that flirts with relegation most seasons. This tosh the media are saying about we have always been against him because of his childhood, is rubbish. I wish him well and hope that he is soon back in employment as a manager. I believe that he has always tried his best for us but I am afraid that did not work for us.

Hello Martin. Time to get excited again. He has not signed on the dotted line yet but it seems almost certain to happen. Martin will bring at least 3 things to Sunderland, a person who thinks about football, a tactical brain and a person who understands and can motivate players (I just hope he does not bring Heskey with him). It will be nice to have a manager who has a well thought out plan A, B & C for each game. Martin will not allow any player to coast it. As fans all we have expected from a player is he plays as well as it can for 90 mins + extra time. That was how Collins & Bardsley got player of the seasons. Technically not the best of players but always give 100% to the cause. Under Keane we did get a number of goals in the last few minutes but recently we played some lovely football with zero end result. As the game went on we would basically give up. That was & is not good enough.

I think O'Neil has the making of a good team but lacking in certain areas. The main problem has been the lacking spirit or leadership due to a poor manager. To lose 3 top strikers can not be a coincidence. The left side needs sorting, we need a experienced strike force to allow the young strikers to come on at their own pace. We also need a creative midfield player and not so many defensive ones.

I expect a win tomorrow for 2 reasons. The first is that this is Black's last game for us, I am sure on Monday he will be gone. He will not want to go out losing, apart from anything he will be looking for a new job and wants to up his CV. The second reason is that Martin will be in the Directors box and not one player will want to underachieve. They will not be wanting their P45's come January.

The team? I don't see too much of change except for maybe Noble starting, or maybe I am hoping he will start. What I think it will be is Westwood, O'Shea, Brown. Turner, Bardsley or Richardson if Noble plays. Larsson, Gardner, Colback, Sess. Then Bendtner, and a pick of Noble, Ji or Richardson. I would play Bardsley & Noble but I think it will be Richardson at the LB & Ji partnering Bendtner.

The Wolves game is a sellout. That shows what loyal fans we have, especially as it is on Sky. The atmosphere will be amazing as most away games are. Next weekend the roof will be blown off SOL as we welcome O'Neil. but as of tomorrow, lets sing, loud and proud

Martin's Red & White Army
